Fire Weather Warning/ Temporary Burn Ban

Updated: Jul 8, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Multnomah County Burn Ban

Effective immediately, Multnomah County has issued a Ban on Outdoor Burning due to hotter and drier weather conditions in the Greater Portland Area. The Sauvie Island Fire District would like to encourage all residents and visitors to follow this ban. The Multnomah County Fire Defense Board Chief states, “Burn[ing] Season will be closed beginning Tuesday, April 13, 2021 through Monday, April 19, 2021. Conditions will be reevaluated on Monday, April 19, 2021.” We strongly encourage curtailment of all agricultural burning, yard debris burning, and recreational fires until safer conditions return to the Island.

As fire season is fast approaching, it is important to remain vigilant in preparing for when a wildfire might occur. Please ensure there is a plan for if an evacuation order is called. Residents should ensure their homes have 100’ of defensible space and homes should be cleared of dried pine needles or leaves. All media inquiries or any questions should be referred to the Sauvie Island Fire District Public Information Officer by calling (503) 621–1242 or by emailing pio@sifire.org. Individuals can, also, visit www.sifire.org/outdoor-burning for more information.
