Barn Catches Fire Near Pumpkin Patch
A barn caught fire on Sauvie Island Sunday, October 11th, during a busy weekend for families to visit the area for pumpkin patch festivities. No one was injured but it certainly created quite a stir.
The fire started just before 11 a.m., inside a converted barn. The barn was not on one of the farms that are a tourist attraction to visitors this time of year. However, it was close enough for everyone to get a good view of the flames. It was located in the 16500 block of NW Gillihan Road, just next door to The Pumpkin Patch. Firefighters from Sauvie Island, Scappoose Fire and the Portland Fire Bureau responded. Some helped divert traffic, while others battled the flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities have not yet released a damage estimate, either.
We would like to thank both Portland Fire and Scappoose Fire for their assistance on this fire. If you have any questions regarding the incident, please contact Chief Norvin Collins at 503-621-1242.
